Early Thursday Ride

For a Thursday morning, it was a pretty big group that met at the front of the Park at 5:45 a.m., but after a few miles we had broken up into a leading group of about 5, and about an equal number following a bit farther back.

As usual for the Thursday ride, we turned around at the pumps, about a mile before Williams Blvd., and took a few minutes to drink and chat. Then the four of us, Jonny, Jan, Gerry and I, headed back to town. We passed the big Thursday training ride group - about 20 strong it seemed - that was heading out on their long, fast ride, and shortly thereafter we rounded the bend at Colonial Country Club:

After riding under the Huey P. Long bridge, and passing Ochsner Foundation Hospital, we rounded the last turn at Oak St. and were in the final stretch back to the park. Here's a video of us along that stretch. With Jan at the front of the line we were hitting 25 - 26 mph before coming off the levee at the Army Corps building. As usual, we had to slow for a car turning off the River Road into the Corps parking lot.
